Hello from Sunny Mexico! NOT!
Posted by Darla
We left Rockford on Valentines Day, the day after a big snow storm in Rockford. It was not snowing but as we got closer to Chicago, it began to snow and by the time we reached Midway Airport, it was really snowing. All flights going East were cancelled, fortunately, we were headed South to warm sunny Mexico.
Our flight from Midway was delayed 1/2 hour (I just love the thought of ”de-icing”). We arrived in Houston late and hustled to our next flight scheduled to leav in 20 minutes. Again, a delay so we were fine. Soon it would be sunny and warm, all cold and snow only a memory!
Well………..we were very thankful we had our coats. The people here accused us of bringing the cold with us. Everyone is bundled up and we asked for an extra blanket on the bed last night. This morning it is still cold and we haven’t seen the sun yet. Locals say this will last for two more days and then it will be warm.
We had a meeting last night with Pastor Javier and Alicia to set out plans for the next three weeks. They have been working so hard in preparation for the arrival of the team. For those of you who prayed for Alicia, her eyes are fine!
This morning we went to the Mission site and those of you who know Keith can imagine his ’whooping and hollering’ when he saw all the work done! The tile floor is beautiful. The terra cotta colored tiles are set at an angle inside large squares boarded in light grey tiles. Elliel, Gamma’s cousin, Julio and another man are doing the grouting this morning. The inside and outside walls are all plastered, ready to be painted.
We went to the lumber yard and ordered all the drywall. It will be delivered on Saturday morning. We could not get the insulation here in VH, so must make a trip to Home Depot in Harlingen. Pray that we can get it all across the boarder without incident. The amount will be “over the limit” and we don’t want to have to pay at the boarder. Pray for a green light! We need it.
I will be going to Gamma’s today to collect all the “kitchen stuff”, then to the Nursing home to clean everything and set up our “breakfast room” at the hotel.
Thank you for your prayers! It is so important to us. Pray that we accomplish everything that needs to be done before the Team arrives on Saturday—as always, Keith has a long list. Pray for the team as they prepare to leave. They will be arriving from Illinois, Georgia, and Minnesota.
In His service,
Darla
