Sunday in Bethlehem
Posted by Darla
We had a full day yesterday travelling to the Med. Sea where we worshiped with a congregation of Messianic Jews. The service was so interesting. We wore headsets so we could hear the translation in English. There were also translations into Russian and for a group from Ethiopia. The people were so warm and for those of us who have travelled to Ukraine, it was fun to talk a little bit in the Ukraine language.
Their usual service which included communion and praise music was suspended due to the conflict in Gaza. The Pastor led the congregation in prayer and then had everyone move into groups of 5 or 6 for intercessory prayer. It was very powerful to be sitting among these dear Jewish people, praying about this war.
After the service we went out to lunch with the Pastor, followed by time back at his office asking many questions. What a wonderful shepherd this man is to such a diverse flock. It was both enlightening and troubling as we again try to process the information we are receiving. I am once again so aware that only the creator God can understand this, not man with this charts and pat answers.
Today we will worship at Emmanuel Church here in Bethlehem with Palestinian Believers. Later, the first part of our group, Todd, Lou and Sue will leave.
Tomorrow the remaining group will go to the Sea of Galilee for a day trip as the students will return to BBC and we want to be “out of their hair” so to speak. Our construction work will begin on Tuesday.
For now, everyone sends their love. We are safe.
