News from Sara via her Mom

Posted by Darla

We heard from Sara from Heathrow airport on Friday afternoon, and that part of the trip went very well, but that wasn’t the part of the trip I had concerns about.  On Sunday after we got home from church there was an e-mail from Ndola, and it sounded like the rest of the trip was […]

Well here we are, less than 24 hours until I embark on my first of three flights that will take me to my final destination of Ndola, Africa. It is hard to put into words how I have been feeling these past few days. In one moment I feel overjoyed, stressed, overwhelmed, humbled, and then […]

Thank you to all of you who have kept up with us on the blog.  Special thanks to those of you who commented - we read all of them and it really helps when you are so far from home!
We left Kiev on Monday evening (our plane was delayed about 30 min) around 6:30 and […]

Still Sunday…

After lunch at Nina’s we went back to the Church for the Children’s Christmas Program/Party.  It was so exciting to see over 60 kids and many parents and grand parents in the sanctuary.  The kids recited poems and sang songs and there was a really cute Christmas puppet show from a group from Brovary.  They […]

This morning we worshipped together at the House of Prayer.  Valera preached and then Andrew gave a message using the projector that was purchased a couple years ago.  It […]

After lunch at Nina’s (omelets, beet salad, potatoes, cheese and apple filled pastries) Sue went to be with Alla to prepare Christmas Dinner. Genevive and Darla stayed at Nina’s and took Unrainian Language lessons. Nina said we were good students - Genevive even mastered the alphabet. We practiced our greetings and salutations which we later […]

Jesus is Born! Let us praise Him!

Posted by Darla

This is the greeting given on Christmas Day as you meet everyone. We have tried and tried, but just can’t seem to say it in Ukrainian.
We enjoyed Christmas breakfast at Nina’s, potatoes, beet salad, cheese, olives, bread, fruit and pastries filled with apples and poppy seeds. At Church men were dressed in traditional Ukrainian shirts […]

Christmas Eve in Kalinovka

Posted by Darla

We had a great day today. In Omelyonova we celebrated Christmas in a service at 10:00.  Vitaly, Genevive and Igor preached, Sue did a chalk talk during Genevive’s sermon of the nativity on one side of the picture and the crosses on the other.  We sang silent night in English for them.
We then got in […]
